Types Of Races You Can Get Trained For In A Running Club

Running is one of the main events in an athletic meet. It is not limited to only a 50m sprint or a 100m sprint. There are other types of races too. Here you will know about the different types of races that you can get trained in when you join a running club.
Sprints
These are races over short distances. You need to reach the maximum speed and cover a short distance as fast as you can. Three sprinting events take place at the major athletics events: 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters.
Middle distance
This is a race that covers a distance of 800m, 1500m, and one mile. In these races, endurance and race tactics are also important, along with speed. You need to have a lot of stamina to compete in these races.
Long-distance
In these races, the athletes run on a 3000m, 5000m, or 10000m track. Speed is important in these races, but more essential are race tactics, stamina, and endurance. If you are fast but lack the other qualities, then you cannot win the race.
Relay races
In this type of race, a team of four athletes is formed. The team’s overall performance will determine the outcome of the race. Therefore, the performance of each team member is important in this race. 4 X100m and 4 X 400m are the common distances for a relay race.
Hurdling
This is a race with obstacles or hurdles. It comes in the form of 100m or 400m hurdlers. Various obstacles are placed on the track, and the runners have to run, overcoming the obstacles and reaching the finishing line.
Triathlon
This race combines running, cycling, and swimming. The athlete must be good at all three activities to win the race. However, if someone is a good runner, then he or she can overcome the shortcomings of swimming by running faster than the other contestants and staying ahead of them.
Marathon
This is a long-distance road race. The distance may range from 5 km to 42.3 km. It is a test of stamina and aerobic endurance. Marathon often takes place on natural terrain courses with hills, flat ground, grass, or gravel road. So, the runners must wear proper shoes to withstand the road obstacles.
